Selfoss | Guesthouse Bitra
After you have arrived and picked up your rental car, you can choose to stay in Reykjavik for a few days, but of course you can also immediately hit the road to discover Iceland.
The Guesthouse Bitra is on a 1.5 hour drive from Keflavík International Airport and is located very central. On the way there you can catch some nice sights on the Reykjanes peninsula, such as the Bridge between continents, the geothermal field of Krýsuvík / Seltún and Kleifarvatn. And the next day you drive to the Kerið crater in less than 26 minutes. For many travelers the starting point of the Golden Circle.
It consists of 17 rooms, which are equipped with a private or shared bathroom and some even overlook the Hekla volcano. In the morning you can enjoy a delicious full breakfast with a number of homemade treats such as bread and jam. Yummie!

Hella | Cafe Arhus Hella
After a day of exploring the Golden Circle, you will propoably prefer not to drive too far anymore. Cafe Arhus Hella, a short 51km (41min) drive from the old explosion crater Kerið and 35km east of Selfoss, is the ideal place to spend the night. And another additional advantage is that you are a already a bit further on your way, when you continue your route the next day along the south coast of Iceland.
For example, the Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrafoss, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, are only a 30 minute drive away. The 4WD bus also departs from here to Þórsmörk National park, where you can take beautiful walks the next day.
At Cafe Arhus Hella you will stay in bungalows for 2-6 persons with a kitchen, fridge, and a private shower and toilet. Or at the campsite, with all the facilities you need during your stay.
There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy a good meal if you don’t feel like cooking (anymore). Use of wifi is free in public places, at the information center you can get more information about things to do and see in the area and you can barbecue on the barbecues. Are you traveling with children? Then they can spend their energy in the playground.

Vik | Icelandair Hotel Vik
Icelandair is not only the national airline of Iceland. They also have an eponymous hotel chain with different hotels, which you can find all over the island.
For example, along the Ring Road and near the black beach of Reynisfjara is the Icelandair Hotel Vik, where you can look out over the rock formations of Reynisdrangar from the beach across the road from the hotel.
The hotel is stylishly furnished and the comfortable rooms are fully equipped. In the morning they serve an extensive breakfast buffet, in the evening you can have a drink in the bar or you can sit down in restaurant Berg for typical Icelandic dishes.
Definitely a lovely place to stay overnight on the south coast and near the Skógafoss waterfall, the Sólheimajökull glacier and Dyrhólaey.

Höfn | Seljaviller Guesthouse
After your travel day along lava fields, glaciers, waterfalls, gorges and the famous glacial lakes Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón along the south coast of Iceland, a convenient place to spend the night is near Höfn.
Seljavellir Guesthouse is 8 minutes north of this small fishing village and is the best accommodation to stay overnight. It is very quiet, has neat double rooms with a private bathroom and while you wake up you will look out over the (snowy) mountain peaks.
After breakfast you are straight on your way to the East Fjords, which are within a 100 km drive, because Ringroad 1 is literally on your doorstep.

Egilsstaðir | Eyjólfsstadir Guesthouse
Eyjólfsstadir Guesthouse is located in eastern Iceland, just a 10-minute drive from Egilsstaðir and on the banks of the Lagarfljót River. Especially if you don’t want to drive too far after a long day of driving through the East Fjords, it is a lovely, quiet place to stay.
Nearby you will find the Hallormsstaður. The, with an area of 740 hectares, largest forest in Iceland where you can take beautiful hikes. And a little further is Hengifoss, also called the hanging waterfall. You can clearly see the waterfall from the road. But do you want to take a closer look? Then you can choose to walk there. Although, the walk is a tough one.
Spending the night at the nearby Eyjólfsstadir Guesthouse is ideal. The rooms (from one to four persons) are simple, but modernly furnished and have a shared bathroom. In the building you will also find several cosy seating areas where you can sit down on the couch and relax after your long drive.

Húsavík | Guesthouse Sigtún
Guesthouse Sigtún is a wonderful guest house in Húsavík: the place to spo
The spacious house has seven comfortable and neat rooms with a shared bathroom. You can choose from a single room, four double rooms and a family room for up to 5 people.
There is a kitchen that you can use to cook something tasty yourself. You can even use the available washing machine and dryer for free. The location of the house is also great! Because in just 5 minutes you can walk to the port and the center of Húsavík.

Hvammstangi | Hvammstangi Cottages
In Iceland it is defenitily recommend to spend at least one night in a cozy chalet. And so we found the Hvammstangi Cottages in the west of Iceland. Just north of Laugarbakki, about a 9 km drive from the Ring Road.
The cozy chalets are not large, but have everything you need. They come with a kitchenette and a private bathroom with a shower. They are also located in a beautiful secluded spot, in the middle of Icelandic nature, near a fjord: Miðfjörður.
Tip: in addition to the chalets, you can also stay overnight at the Hvammstangi Hostel.
It is wonderfully quiet at this place and if you stay there in winter you even have a chance to see the Northern Lights. It is also ideal as a base to explore the West Fjords or to continue your way to the north or south of Iceland. Definitely one of the best accommodations along the Ring Road where we spent the night on our Iceland roadtrip!

Grundarfjörður | Grundarfjörður Guesthouse & Apartments
Snæfellsnes is the largest peninsula in Iceland which is known as Iceland in miniature, because you will encounter a lot of nature that you also see elsewhere on the island.
The Grundarfjörður Guesthouse & Apartments are located in the picturesque fishing village of Grundarfjörður, 22 km from the Snæfellsjökull National Park in western Snæfellsnes. And the famous mountain peak of Kirkjufell and the Kirkjufellfoss are just around the corner, just a few minutes drive away.
You can spend the night in one of the en-suite rooms in the main building, where you will also find communal TV rooms and shared kitchens. Or in one of the nearby fully equipped apartments. These even offer a sea or mountain view. Do you sleep in one of the en-suite rooms? Then you even have the chance to look out onto Kirkjufell from your room, which is located over the way!

Reykjavik | Skuggi Hotel Reykjavík
Reykjavik should definitely not be missed during your roadtrip across Iceland. Either at the beginning or at the end of your journey. Spending the night in the capital of Iceland is not cheap, but there is definitely plenty of choice. The Skuggi Hotel, part of the Keahotels, is a lovely place to stay if you want to explore Reykjavik.
The hotel is centrally located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Hverfisgata. And in a few minutes you are standing in the city center with its many sights, such as the beautiful Hallgrímskirkja, the special concert hall Harpa and the shopping street Laugavegur.
The rooms are modern and have all the facilities for a wonderful stay in the capital of Iceland!

Keflavik | Kef Guesthouse
Especially when you fly back home early in the morning, it is a lot nicer to spend the night close to the airport. You will find a comfortable guesthouse at 3.6 km from Keflavík International Airport: Kef Guesthouse Grænásvegur.
You can stay in a double room with shared bathroom. Or choose a family room with a private or shared bathroom. And super nice are also the free shuttle service to / from the airport that you can use, a common room where you can cook yourself, the extensive breakfast, the free WIFI, the free parking (super handy if you have a rental car!) and the reception is open 24 hours a day.
