Bako National Park is located 20 km north of Kuching and is the ideal city to stay if you want to take a day trip to this beautiful nature park. You can stay at different accommodations, from hostels to luxury hotels (which are very affordable). These are really the nicest accommodations if you choose to spend the night in Kuching:
1. Check In Lodge – Kuching
The Check In Lodge is a hostel, which can be found on 1.2 km from the Kuching Waterfront.
You can spend the night in a mixed dormitory, a double room or a quadruple room, either with a shared or private bathroom and air conditioning.
There is also a small indoor swimming pool where you can cool down after a day at the Bako National Park or Kuching itself.

2. Tune Hotel – Waterfront Kuching
This budget accommodation is located on the Waterfront of Kuching: the Tune Hotel Waterfront Kuching.
All 140 rooms are simple, but do have a private bathroom, as well as a fan and air conditioning for a nice cooling breeze during the night.
When booking your room, make sure you check whether it has a window. As not all rooms have a window.

3. The Waterfront Hotel Kuching
The Waterfront Hotel Kuching is a boutique hotel on 200m from the Waterfront.
The hotel has got 208 modern rooms, all with a private bathroom, air conditioning and views of Kuching city center or the Sarawak River. And it has got a beautiful infinity pool.

4. Grand Margherita Hotel – Kuching
In the center of Kuching you will find this luxury 4-star hotel, the Grand Margherita.
All rooms are modern and have a private bathroom as well as air conditioning. In addition, you can swim in the outdoor pool, work out in the fitness center or relax in the spa.
We stayed here during our visit to Kuching and is definitely recommended if you are looking for an affordable but luxurious hotel. It was wonderful to dive into the pool after we returned from Bako National Park.

Accommodations Bako National Park
If you want to visit Bako National Park for several days and discover more of the park, you will have to spend the night in the park itself. There are no less than 16 hikes to do in the park, so if you want you can definitely spend a few days in Bako National Park. Although you can see the highlights of Bako National Park in just one day.
The accommodations in Bako National Park itself are not luxurious, but you do get an overnight stay in the middle of the rainforest at the campsite, in the hostel or in one of the lodges.
5. Camping
The campsite has got 50 camping sites and is equipped with a public bathroom and toilet. For a stay at the campsite you must bring your own camping gear, because these are not included.
The costs for a stay at the campsite are MYR 5 / € 1 per person, per night. And you can stay with a maximum of 2 people on a campsite.
6. Forest Hostel
At the hostel you can stay in one of the 4 separate rooms, which are equipped with 4 single beds, a shared bathroom and a toilet. As well as a fan and a fridge . The only things which are not included are towels and bed linen.
You can book the Forest hostel per bed or per room. You pay MYR 15 / € 3 per night per bed and for a room you pay MYR 40 / € 8.25 per night. You can therefore stay here with a maximum of 4 people per room (max. 1 person per bed).
7. Forest Lodge
At the Forest Lodge there are different types of houses that you can choose from to spend the night. In all types of lodges you can use the available fridge and the fan. And you get towels and blankets during your stay.
Type 5
Forest Lodge Type 5 consists of 3 houses with 2 separate rooms, each with 3 single beds, a shared bathroom and a toilet.
You can rent a room for max. 3 people (MYR 100 / € 21 per room per night), but it is also possible to rent a house if you are with max. 6 people (MYR 150 / € 31 per house per night).
Type 5 of the Forest Lodge also has a number of new houses at Bako National Park. So if you want to stay here, please state this clearly when you make a reservation!
Type 6
Forest Lodge Type 6 are 2 houses with 2 separate rooms with 2 single beds, and have an adjoining bathroom and toilet.
The costs are MYR 50 / € 10.50 per room, per night (max. 2 people per room) and MYR 75 / € 15.50 per house, per night (max. 4 people per house).
Type 5 (terrace)
Forest Lodge Type 5 (terrace) consists of 6 separate rooms with 4 single beds each and have an adjoining bathroom and toilet.
You pay MYR 100 / € 21 per night for a room and you can stay in a room with a maximum of 4 people.
Type 4
Forest Lodge Type 4 has got 2 houses with 2 separate rooms. Each room has got 3 single beds with an adjoining bathroom and toilet.
It is possible to rent both a room and an entire house. The costs per room per night (for a maximum of 3 people) are MYR 150 / € 31. For a house, you pay MYR 225 / € 47 per house per night (for a maximum of 6 people).
The great thing about this lodge is that it is equipped with air conditioning instead of a fan.

Surcharge for foreign tourists
Since 1 September 2017, all foreign tourists must pay a tourist tax (the TTX) at check-in or check-out. This is a surcharge of MYR 10 / € 2 per room per night (which does not apply if you are a resident of Malaysia).
